Rock On

"Rock On" is the fourth studio album by English rock band Humble Pie, released in 1971. It is the last Humble Pie studio album to feature guitarist and vocalist Steve Marriott's full participation before he left the band. Marriott sang and performed on all of the tracks and also drew the album cover.

"Rock On" continued Humble Pie's trend of focusing on the blending of hard rock and folk sounds, and marks the apex of the band's emphasis on soul and R&B. It showcases several strong tracks, but none were released as singles at the time of the album’s release. Nevertheless, standouts like the haunting opener "Shine On," the rare Steve Marriott synth break "Stone Cold Fever," as well as an inspired reading of Ike & Tina Turner's "Black Coffee" are all highly regarded.

The album was recorded at Olympic Studios in London, with Glyn Johns, who had engineered the band's first two albums, returning as the producer. The recording sessions were notable for the presence of teenage vocalist Claudia Lennear, who provided backing vocals on some tracks and was the inspiration for the Rolling Stones' song "Brown Sugar."

"Rock On" was well-received and is considered a career highlight for Humble Pie. Despite not having a charting single, the album itself was a moderate success and managed to reach the lower regions of the Billboard 200, peaking at number 118.
