Luciferian Towers

"Luciferian Towers" is the sixth studio album by the Canadian post-rock band Godspeed You! Black Emperor, released on September 22, 2017. Known for their expansive, instrumental compositions, Godspeed You! Black Emperor continues their tradition of crafting cinematic soundscapes that blend elements of rock, classical, and drone music.

The album comprises four tracks divided into movements, maintaining a structure that allows for dynamic shifts and crescendos. Notably, the album reflects the band's political and social critiques, a recurring theme in their work. The music evokes a sense of urgency and resistance, underlining their commitment to expressing dissatisfaction with contemporary socio-political issues.

Recorded at Hotel2Tango, a well-known studio in Montreal associated with several post-rock and indie acts, "Luciferian Towers" showcases the band's distinct sound: layers of guitars, strings, and horns build to create atmospheric and immersive experiences. The album was produced by Greg Norman, alongside the band members, ensuring that their artistic vision was maintained.

Accompanying the album release were few statements and manifestos, which are characteristic of the band’s releases, often providing cryptic insights into their ideological inspirations. Though largely instrumental, the emotional and thematic depth of "Luciferian Towers" invites listeners to engage with the music actively, interpreting it within personal and broader societal contexts. The album received positive reviews for its musical craftsmanship and the way it captures the zeitgeist of an era characterized by turmoil and change.
