Deathwish

"Deathwish" is an extended play (EP) by the American gothic band, Christian Death. Released in 1984, this EP consists of several early versions of songs that were eventually integrated into their debut studio album "Only Theatre of Pain". It stands as a representation of their preliminary efforts bunched together in a four-track offering.

Interestingly, "Deathwish" wasn't a traditional studio creation but a release that features the band's old rehearsal tapes and a live recording. Even though it was countered by mixed critiques, the raw, unfettered sound of Christian Death in their formative years translates into a historically fascinating relic of a band in progress. The EP includes tracks such as "Deathwish," "Cavity-First Communion," "Romeo's Distress", and "Dogs."

Christian Death, the band responsible for this EP, is considered one of the early initiators of the gothic rock genre, the original members being Rozz Williams, Jay, James McGearty, and George Belanger. Formed in 1979 in Los Angeles, California, the band is known for their dark and abundant thematic explorations of religion, death, and love. With their pivotal contributions to goth culture through their music, Christian Death solidified their place in the history of rock music. However, throughout their career, the group has experienced extensive personnel changes, the only constant member being guitarist Valor Kand since 1985. Despite the changes and trials, Christian Death continues to be active and produce music in the industry.
