Greatest Hits (Blondie album)

"Greatest Hits" is a compilation album by the American rock band Blondie, released by EMI/Capitol Records in 2002. This collection features many of the band's most iconic tracks, showcasing their blend of punk, disco, and pop that defined the late 1970s and early 1980s.

The album includes hits like "Heart of Glass," "Call Me," and "One Way or Another," reflecting Blondie's commercial success and cultural impact. It serves as a comprehensive overview of their career, appealing to both longtime fans and new listeners. The release also highlights the band's innovative style and the influential role they played in shaping the music landscape of their era.

Following the reissue of Blondie's original studio albums in 2001, Greatest Hits emerged as a significant compilation for the band, marking the first officially sanctioned "Best of" release in over two decades. This digitally remastered collection includes their classic hits alongside their comeback single "Maria," which topped the UK charts in February 1999.

Compiled by Kevin Flaherty and music journalist Steve Pafford, who also contributed sleeve notes, the album incorporates all tracks from the band's 1981 compilation The Best of Blondie, including four long-deleted 'special mixes' by producer Mike Chapman. Pafford was also in the early stages of collaborating with Debbie Harry on an illustrated book titled BlondieStyle, although the project remains on hold as of 2010.

Greatest Hits performed well commercially, peaking at #38 on the UK Albums Chart and remaining on the chart for 31 weeks. In New Zealand, it reached #15 and charted for eight weeks. By August 2005, the album had sold 85,000 copies in the United States.

Accompanying the album was a DVD release titled Greatest Video Hits, featuring the original 1981 video compilation. This version included additional videos for songs like "The Hardest Part," "Island of Lost Souls," and an uncensored version of "Maria," though "Call Me" and "Sunday Girl" were not listed on the cover.
