Magic Christian Music

"Magic Christian Music" is the second album by Welsh rock band Badfinger, released in early 1970 by Apple Records. The album is a compilation for which three tracks from the band's previous LP were re-produced and four tracks from their second LP were remixed. The rest of the album is made up of A-sides and B-sides from 1968 and 1969, and one new recording. The new song on the album was "Come and Get It", written by Paul McCartney, who produced it and three other songs for the film "The Magic Christian". This film also included tracks from the "Maybe Tomorrow" LP.

Badfinger, originally named The Iveys, was made up of Pete Ham, Ron Griffiths, Mike Gibbins, and Tom Evans. During the production of their album, Griffiths was fired from the group and replaced by Joey Molland, who didn't participate in any recordings for this particular album. The Morales brothers produced the sessions outside of McCartney's input, and Tony Visconti provided string and brass arrangements. Despite the varying recording origins, the album maintains a tight pop-rock sound, with elements of psychedelic rock and softer acoustic styles.

The album was a commercial success, reaching the Top 10 in the UK and peaking at #55 in the US. The only hit single from the album was "Come and Get It", which reached the Top 10 in both countries. The critical response was generally positive, hailing the band's songwriting and the quality of the production. Despite some inconsistencies owing to its compilation nature, "Magic Christian Music" is considered a prominent record in Badfinger's catalog.
