Grand Funk Railroad

"We're an American Band" is the seventh studio album by American hard rock band Grand Funk Railroad, released on July 15, 1973, by Capitol Records. This album marked a significant point in the band's career, as it was certified gold by the RIAA just over a month after its release. It was also notable for being the first album with Craig Frost, who played organ, clavinet, and Moog, adding new dimensions to the band's sound. Previously a power trio, Grand Funk Railroad now had a fourth member contributing to their music. The album's title track, "We're an American Band," was released as the first single on July 2, 1973, and the second single, "Walk Like a Man," followed on October 29, 1973. Both singles were sung by drummer Don Brewer. The album cover initially featured gold-colored foil, and the first pressings were made on clear, dark yellow vinyl to mimic a "gold" record. The album has been reissued multiple times and is available in various formats, including Compact Disc and a Quadraphonic mix on 8-Track cartridge. "We're an American Band" is listed as #200 in the National Association of Recording Merchandisers' (NARM) Definitive 200 albums of all time, reflecting its lasting impact and popularity.
