Nico

"Chelsea Girl" is the debut solo album by German singer Nico, released in October 1967 by Verve Records. Following her collaboration with the Velvet Underground on their debut album, Nico teamed up with producer Tom Wilson for this release. Wilson's decision to include string and flute arrangements, against Nico's initial preferences, added a distinctive texture to the album. The title pays homage to Andy Warhol's influential 1966 film "Chelsea Girls," in which Nico had a prominent role. The album features contributions from members of the Velvet Underground, including Lou Reed, Sterling Morrison, and John Cale, who provided instrumental work and songwriting credits on several tracks. Notably, the song "I'll Keep It with Mine" was penned by Bob Dylan, and guitarist Jackson Browne also contributed to three tracks. "Chelsea Girl" showcases Nico's haunting vocals and experimental folk-pop sound, solidifying her unique presence in the music scene of the 1960s.
