Canned Heat

"Live at Topanga Corral" is a live album by Canned Heat, originally released in 1971. Despite its title, the album was actually recorded during a 1968 concert at the Kaleidoscope in Hollywood, California, not at the Topanga Corral as indicated. The discrepancy arose because Canned Heat, then under contract with Liberty Records, faced restrictions against releasing a live album under that label. To circumvent this, manager Skip Taylor informed Liberty Records that the recordings were from performances at the Topanga Corral in 1966 and 1967. The album was eventually released by Wand Records to avoid legal complications. Over the years, "Live at Topanga Corral" has been bootlegged and reissued numerous times under different titles, including "Live at the Kaleidoscope," reflecting its true origin at the Hollywood venue. Despite the initial misrepresentation, the album remains a notable live recording in Canned Heat's discography, capturing their energetic blues-rock performances from the late 1960s.
