Art

"Supernatural Fairy Tales" is the only studio album by the band Art. It was released in 1967. Art was an offshoot of the band The V.I.P.s and an early incarnation of the band that would later become known as Spooky Tooth. The band members are Mike Harrison on lead vocals and keyboard, Greg Ridley on bass guitar and vocals, Luther Grosvenor on lead guitar, and Mike Kellie on drums. The album "Supernatural Fairy Tales" is best described as psychedelic rock, incorporating a variety of influences and styles, reflecting the growing trend towards experimentalism and non-traditional arrangements in '60s rock music. The predominant psych rock sound of the band on this album was an important steppingstone towards the formation of the vastly successful and influential Spooky Tooth. Today, "Supernatural Fairy Tales" is seen as a pre-progressive masterwork and a cornerstone of proto-progressive rock. The album features 12 tracks including the title track "Supernatural Fairy Tale", "Love Is Real", and a cover of Bob Dylan's "She Belongs to Me". Its title track is a dramatic, kaleidoscopic sonic journey with lyrics derived from classic fairy tales. "Supernatural Fairy Tales" remains a fascinating artifact from a transitory period in late '60s British rock, encapsulating the moment when mod was transforming into psychedelia and hard rock, soon to morph into progressive rock.
