Todd Rundgren

"With a Twist..." is a 1997 album by Todd Rundgren, featuring new versions of his older singles reimagined in a Bossa nova style infused with Exotica elements. This creative approach included whimsical touches like tropical bird call effects at the beginning of "Hello, It's Me," reminiscent of Martin Denny's "Quiet Village." To enhance the album's tropical theme, Rundgren toured theaters with a replica of a tiki bar, where performers played on a small stage while select audience members were seated at tables on stage and served drinks by the monitor engineer/bartender. This unique setup created an intimate atmosphere, with performers intentionally not acknowledging the larger theater audience. The show concluded when the last "bar patron" left the stage, emphasizing the immersive experience. Additionally, a new rendition of "Love of the Common Man," originally from the album Faithful, was later included in a style similar to With a Twist... on the album One Long Year.
