"Thinks: School Stinks" is the debut studio album by UK-based band Hotlegs. Released in 1971, the album marked the first significant showcase of what eventually became the iconic band 10cc. The trio, composed of Eric Stewart, Kevin Godley, and Lol Creme, formed Hotlegs before taking on Graham Gouldman to become 10cc.
"Thinks: School Stinks" features the hit single "Neanderthal Man," which scored notable chart success. This experimental, primarily instrumental track reached No. 2 in the UK and No. 22 in the US while also hitting the charts in several other countries.
The album is remembered for its eclectic and innovative style, blending pop, rock, and avant-garde elements. Despite being somewhat obscure today, it held a significant influence on 10cc's later work, providing an early showcase of the group's inventive songwriting, detailed production, and musical sophistication. The Hotlegs era proved to be a transitional phase for the band members, being the formation of the tight-knit creative unit that would go on to achieve much success as 10cc.
