"Is There Anything About?" is the sixth studio album by the British jazz fusion group Brand X, released in 1982. It marks the last album to feature longstanding members Robin Lumley and Phil Collins, who had been integral to the band's sound and direction up to that point.
The album consists of material assembled from outtakes recorded during the 1979 "Product" sessions. These sessions had initially produced around twenty tracks, some of which were also used for the "Do They Hurt?" album released in 1980.
Several tracks on "Is There Anything About?" have interesting origins and variations. For example, "Modern, Noisy and Effective" features the backing track from "Soho" with a new keyboard line overdubbed on it. "A Longer April" is an extended version of "April" from the "Product" album, with additional synth elements added in the middle section.
One particularly intriguing track is "TMIU-ATGA," which stands for 'They Make It Up As They Go Along.' This track originated from an old cassette tape that was running in the studio while the band was improvising, capturing a spontaneous and unrehearsed moment.
Overall, "Is There Anything About?" showcases Brand X's improvisational prowess and their ability to create complex, layered compositions from studio outtakes. Despite the album's unconventional origins, it remains a notable entry in the band's discography and a testament to their experimental approach to jazz fusion.
