War

"The Music Band – Jazz" is the fifth and final installment in War's "Music Band" series, released on MCA Records in 1983. This album primarily consists of outtakes from recording sessions for their 1979 albums "The Music Band" and "The Music Band 2." It showcases various lineups of the band that were active during that period. By the time "The Music Band – Jazz" was released, War had already ceased recording for MCA Records. Unlike previous albums in the series, no singles were released from this album. The album features tracks that reflect different stages of War's evolution up to 1979. Track one likely dates back to when B. B. Dickerson was still with the band, prior to Charles Miller's tragic murder. Track two could have been recorded or written at any point leading up to 1979. In contrast to the earlier volumes in the "Music Band" series, which featured elaborate printing methods including embossing, metallic print, gatefolds, and inner sleeves, "The Music Band – Jazz" and its predecessor, "The Best of the Music Band" (1982), opted for a simpler approach. These final volumes were produced using standard four-color printing without additional embellishments. Overall, "The Music Band – Jazz" offers a retrospective glimpse into War's creative output during a transformative period in their career, compiling previously unreleased tracks that showcase their eclectic musical style and diverse influences.
