"Galaxy" is the tenth studio album by the American band War. It marked their first release on MCA Records and was certified gold. The album features a laid-back tropical-flavored jazz-funk style, with elements of funk and soul that War was known for, though it was considered to be less ambitious than some of their previous works.
Critically, the album received mixed reviews. In Christgau's Record Guide: Rock Albums of the Seventies (1981), Robert Christgau described the album as War's "most unambitious" effort, praising the first side for its P-Funk-inspired sound, although he felt the phrasemaking of earlier War records was less prominent. He noted that the second side "winds down" and felt that the album's pace dragged on too long, particularly with a fourteen-minute track that he considered overextended. On the other hand, the Bay State Banner noted that apart from one track, Galaxy is a laid-back, tropical-flavored jazz-funk album.
Despite the mixed critical reception, Galaxy was commercially successful, achieving gold certification.
