"A Kind of Magic" is the twelfth studio album by the British rock band Queen, released on June 2, 1986, by EMI Records in the UK and Capitol Records in the US. The album serves as the soundtrack to the film *Highlander*, directed by Russell Mulcahy. It was Queen's first album following their acclaimed performance at Live Aid in 1985 and achieved immediate success in the UK, debuting at number one and selling 100,000 copies in its first week. The album stayed in the UK charts for 63 weeks, with total UK sales reaching 600,000 copies.
The album produced four hit singles: "A Kind of Magic," "One Vision," "Friends Will Be Friends," and "Who Wants to Live Forever," the latter featuring an orchestra conducted by Michael Kamen. The final track, "Princes of the Universe," is the theme song for *Highlander*.
"A Kind of Magic" marked the last album promoted with a concert tour by Queen while Freddie Mercury was alive, as he was diagnosed with AIDS the following year. Despite this, Queen released two more albums before Mercury's death.
