"In Search of the Fourth Chord" is the twenty-eighth studio album by English rock band Status Quo, released on September 17, 2007. The album's title humorously alludes to the longstanding rumor that the band only plays three chords, while also nodding to the album In Search of the Lost Chord by the Moody Blues. The album's cover art parodies the Indiana Jones films.
This release marked the return of producer Pip Williams, who had previously worked with the band on their 1996 album Don't Stop. In Search of the Fourth Chord entered the UK Albums Chart at number 15.
The track "Bad News" is notable for being the first Status Quo song with bassist John "Rhino" Edwards taking lead vocals on an original song. Additionally, his son Freddie contributes a guitar solo to this track. "Bad News" and "Gravy Train," the latter sung by Rick Parfitt, are also the first Status Quo tracks solely written by John Edwards.
