"Blue for You" is the ninth studio album by English rock band Status Quo. Released in March 1976, this album became one of their most successful, hitting number one on the UK Albums Chart. It was also a successful venture overseas, topping the charts in New Zealand and reaching high positions in several other countries.
"Blue for You" features hits penned by all members of the band, like "Rain" and their first ever No. 1 UK single, “Down Down”. Band members Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt wrote several of the album's tracks, demonstrating their emerging songwriting abilities. Alongside Rossi and Parfitt, Alan Lancaster and John Coghlan completed the quartet.
The album's sound is notably heavy and rock-oriented, but it also displays a certain level of sophistication, demonstrating the band’s growth and evolution since their early psychedelic days. The iconic cover photo, featuring the band members in blue denim against a blue background, further entrenched their 'rock-and-roll' image.
While "Blue for You" deviates little from their established boogie-woogie template, it serves its purpose effectively, offering an array of toe-tapping tunes that helped solidify Status Quo’s reputation as one of Britain's leading rock bands of the era.
