Status Quo

"Piledriver" is the fifth studio album by the English rock band Status Quo, released in 1972. It marked a defining moment in the band's history as it was the first album by the group to reach the top 5 in the UK album charts, setting the stage for a long line of successful releases by the band. The album consists of 8 tracks and sees the band moving away from their psychedelic roots to a more straightforward and heavier boogie and blues rock sound, laying the groundwork for their style in the years to come. "Piledriver" kicks off with the well-known track "Don't Waste My Time" and also features the band's epic anthem, "Big Fat Mama". Despite being their fifth studio album, "Piledriver" was the first to be co-produced by the band and their manager at the time, John Coghlan, demonstrating the group's growing confidence and control over their sound. The album was well-received by critics and fans alike. Over time, it has been recognized not just for its commercial success, but for its influence on the development of hard rock and heavy metal. Its success secured Status Quo’s place as one of Britain's top rock acts of the 1970s, setting them on a path of continued popularity that lasts to this day.
