"Nice 'n' Greasy" is the fifth studio album by British rock band Atomic Rooster. Released in 1973, it marked a transitional period for the band with the inclusion of John Goodsall on guitars following the departure of Steve Bolton the previous year. Despite the lineup change, the album failed to chart, resulting in Atomic Rooster being dropped from Dawn Records. This setback ultimately led to band leader Vincent Crane disbanding Atomic Rooster in 1975 after a final tour, putting the group on hiatus until their revival in 1980.
In the United States, the album was released on Elektra Records with a different sleeve and under the title "Atomic Rooster IV". This was due to their debut album, "Atomic Roooster" (1970), not receiving a US release. The US version also featured a slightly altered track listing compared to the UK release. Similarly, the German release titled "Nice & Greasy" followed the US track listing but featured distinct album art that sparked attention for its phallic imagery.
Over time, "Nice 'n' Greasy" underwent multiple reissues in Germany, including a 1977 release with yet another new sleeve design and retitled "This is Atomic Rooster Vol. 2". These variations in releases and titles reflect the band's efforts to gain traction in different markets despite the challenges they faced in maintaining a stable lineup and consistent commercial success during this period.
