Atomic Rooster

Atomic Rooster is a band formed in 1969 by musicians Vincent Crane and Carl Palmer, both previously part of 'The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown'. Their self-titled debut album 'Atomic Rooster' was released in 1970. Mostly leaning on progressive rock, the album absorbed elements of hard rock and psychedelia. It introduced their distinctive heavy organ-driven sound, anchored by the classically-trained piano of Vincent Crane. The album features a mix of original songs and covers, with originals primarily penned by Crane. The album didn't significantly chart upon its initial release in the United Kingdom, yet possessed notable tracks including "Friday the 13th" and "Winter". Even though it was their debut, the album was indicative of their musical versatility, veering between heavy rock and instruments like piano and mellotron that were more associated with progressive rock. While the music was somewhat dark and ominous, Crane's intense keyboard playing and the innovative arrangements set them apart from many of their contemporaries. Atomic Rooster continued to evolve their sound on subsequent albums. In later years, the band's debut has garnered a reputation as a pioneering effort in the progressive rock genre. Though Atomic Rooster experienced various line-up changes throughout their career, they've left a considerable influence on future generations of hard rock and progressive musicians.
