"1000 Hurts" is the third studio album by American rock band Shellac, released on August 8, 2000. In its official promotional materials, Shellac jokingly described the album as having "no 12-minute songs" and being "more mean-spirited," with Todd Trainer providing vocals.
The cover art pays homage to old Ampex audio recording tape boxes, reflecting the band's preference for analog tape and their admiration for Ampex tape and tape recorders. The speech at the start of the record mimics announcements heard on Magnetic Reference Laboratory's calibration tapes for analog tape recorders. The album title, "1000 Hurts," refers to one thousand Hertz (1000 Hz), a measure used in audio recording to describe a sine wave cycling 1,000 times per second.
"1000 Hurts" was named Rockfeedback magazine's record of the decade. Jehnny Beth of the band Savages cited the album as one of her biggest influences, stating that it made her "want to be a bassist" and inspired her ideas about recording music.
