Shellac

"At Action Park" is the debut studio album by American rock band Shellac, released on October 24, 1994. The band consists of Steve Albini (guitar and vocals), Bob Weston (bass and vocals), and Todd Trainer (drums), and is known for their minimalistic approach to rock music with a heavy focus on instrumentation. The album was recorded at Steve Albini's own recording studio, Electrical Audio, in Chicago. The name "At Action Park" was chosen as a homage to the notorious New Jersey theme park, Action Park, which was infamous for its hazardous rides. The album is significantly recognized for its raw and aggressive sound. The songs mostly focus on complex rhythms and textures over traditional rock song structures, using a lot of unusual time signatures. Lyrically, the songs range from graphic and confrontational to sarcastic and abstract. "At Action Park" was highly influential; it helped to establish the band's reputation and particular sound, and was also an important release in the post-hardcore and noise rock scenes of the mid-to-late 1990s. The stand out tracks from the album include "My Black Ass," "Pull The Cup," and "The Idea Of North," which showcase the band’s signature manipulation of tension and release.
