Uriah Heep

"Raging Silence" is the 17th studio album by the English rock band Uriah Heep. Released in May 1989, this album represents the venture of the band into more commercial and FM-friendly territory, a departure from their progressive rock sound. However, it still retained the trademark Uriah Heep flair. This particular album is significant as it is the first Uriah Heep studio album to feature lead vocalist Bernie Shaw and keyboardist Phil Lanzon, both of whom are still active with the band as of 2021. The album featured a cover of Argent's "Hold Your Head Up," an edited version of which was released as a single. This cover has now become a staple of Uriah Heep's live shows. Other popular tracks from the album include "Blood Red Roses" and "Voice on My TV." Despite the changes in the band's line-up and style, "Raging Silence" succeeded in showcasing the band's adaptability and commitment to their music. The producer of the album is Richard Dodd, known for his work with several popular rock bands. David Bell took care of the album's art direction, using the visual theme of a raging storm against a bleak landscape, possibly as a metaphor for the new direction and turbulence within the band at the time. Overall, "Raging Silence" stands tall in Uriah Heep's discography as an album that challenged the band to embrace new styles and demonstrated their ability to evolve while keeping their rock roots intact.
