Uriah Heep

"Sonic Origami" is the 20th studio album from the iconic British rock band, Uriah Heep. It was originally released on September 15th, 1998. The album marked a continuation of the band's easy-going progressive rock style which they pivoted to in the 90's. Following their consistent pattern of delivering one album every two years in the 1990s, "Sonic Origami" succeeded "Spellbinder Live" (1996) and was followed by "Future Echoes of the Past" (2000). Produced by Pip Williams, the album features the lineup of Mick Box (guitar), Lee Kerslake (drums), Trevor Bolder (bass), Phil Lanzon (keyboards and synthesizers) and Bernie Shaw (lead vocals). It's packed with 11 tracks, including notable songs like "Between Two Worlds", "Perfect Little Heart" and "Heartless Land". "Sonic Origami" particularly stands out for its thematic and musical depth, with the band exploring new sonic landscapes and textures while retaining the classic Uriah Heep sound. Lyrically, the songs cover a varied spectrum of themes from love and loss to introspection and existential exploration. The album received positive reviews from music critics and was particularly praised for its well-crafted songs and the band's accomplished musicianship. Despite being released more than two decades after the band's heyday, 'Sonic Origami' retains the unique Uriah Heep charm and shows that the band could still deliver high-quality music deep into their career.
