Stevie Ray Vaughan

"Texas Flood" marks the debut studio album by the American blues rock band Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, unleashed on June 13, 1983, by Epic Records. The album derives its title from a cover song featured on the album, "Texas Flood," initially recorded by blues singer Larry Davis in 1958. Produced by the band and recording engineer Richard Mullen, "Texas Flood" was crafted in a whirlwind three-day recording session at Jackson Browne's personal studio in Los Angeles. Vaughan himself penned six of the album's ten tracks. From the album, two singles emerged: "Love Struck Baby" and "Pride and Joy." The music video for "Love Struck Baby" received regular rotation on MTV in 1983, enhancing the album's visibility. In 1999, "Texas Flood" was reissued with five bonus tracks, including studio outtakes and live recordings. Further commemorating its legacy, the album received another reissue in 2013, featuring two CDs in celebration of its 30th anniversary. The first disc includes the original album with a bonus track, while the second disc offers selections from a previously unreleased concert recorded for the King Biscuit Flower Hour radio program. Critically acclaimed, "Texas Flood" received praise for its deep blues sound and Vaughan's exceptional songwriting. Although some critics expressed reservations about its departure from mainstream rock, a retrospective review by AllMusic awarded the album a perfect five-star rating, solidifying its status as a blues rock classic.
