Blue Öyster Cult

"Heaven Forbid" is the twelfth studio album by American rock band Blue Öyster Cult, released in March 1998. This marked the return of the band after a decade without any new material. The album demonstrated a significant shift in the band's sound with a harder, more contemporary edge compared to their earlier work. Produced by Donald Roeser (also known as Buck Dharma, who is one of Blue Öyster Cult's original band members) and collaborating musician Eric Bloom, the album consists of eleven tracks. The album received praised for its consistency and for maintaining the band's unique aesthetic while incorporating modern sonic elements. Perhaps the most well-known track on the album is “Harvest Moon”, which has been described as a classic Blue Öyster Cult's track with a lengthy, textural guitar solo. A wide array of writers contributed their talents to the album, including long-time BÖC lyricist and collaborator Richard Meltzer. "Live for Me” and “Still Burnin'" are acknowledgements to former members of the band who had passed away. Despite the long hiatus, "Heaven Forbid" successfully reminded Blue Öyster Cult's faithful fans of the band's distinctive sound, while appealing to a newer generation of hard rock enthusiasts.
