Wishbone Ash

"No Smoke Without Fire" is the ninth studio album released by rock band Wishbone Ash. It was released in 1978, showcasing a jump from the band's traditional progressive and hard rock roots to more commercial, contemporary styles. The album is notable for its cohesive songwriting and improved production quality, elements brought in by new band member, bassist Trevor Bolder. Bolder joined Wishbone Ash after a stint with Uriah Heep, and his tenure began with this album. "No Smoke Without Fire" was also notable for reuniting the band with producer Derek Lawrence, who had not produced a Wishbone Ash album since their first self-titled debut. Popular tracks from the album include, "You See Red" and "Way of the World". The album produced one single, "You See Red," which didn't manage to chart. Despite this, the album itself was a commercial success, reaching No. 43 on the UK Albums Chart. One of the album's unique features is its cover designed by Hipgnosis, based upon a concept by guitarist/vocalist Andy Powell. It depicts a segway of fireplaces, creating a kind of "infinite mirror" effect. "No Smoke Without Fire" drew overall positive reviews for its polished production and the band's successful venture into more mainstream rock genres.
