Procol Harum

"Something Magic" is the ninth studio album by British rock band Procol Harum. Released in March 1977, it marked the return of lyricist Keith Reid, who had taken a hiatus during the band's previous album release. Despite this, it would also be the final studio album released by the band until "The Prodigal Stranger" in 1991. "Something Magic" failed to garner the same level of commercial success as their previous works and received a mix of both positive and negative reviews from critics. The album hosts a selection of both short songs and lengthy, progressive pieces, including a side-long narrative poem, "The Worm and The Tree," which stylistically draws from the grand suites with which the band found success in the early years. The album's artwork was designed by Spencer Zahn, adding another layer to the album's mystique with its captivating and enigmatic illustrations. Despite the mixed critique and less than stellar sales, "Something Magic" still stands as a vital piece of Procol Harum's discography for its testament to their musical versatility and heavy symbolism.
