Caravan

"For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night" is the fifth studio album by the English progressive rock band Caravan. This album saw a significant shift in band members and was released on 4 January 1973. It is notable for the fact that Mike Wedgwood who replaced Richard Sinclair on bass and vocals, contributed for the first time. The album stands out in that it distinguishes the band's characteristic Canterbury sound with a dramatic orchestral flair, thanks to the inclusion of a full orchestra. This was not common within the genre of progressive rock during this time period. Despite this significant change, Caravan was able to maintain their unique sound and identity. The album includes signature progressive rock essentials such as complex instrumental sections and ambitious song structures, notably in tracks such as "C'thlu Thlu" and "The Dog, The Dog, He's at it Again". This album was well received both critically and commercially. Although Caravan may not have achieved massive mainstream success, they have established a loyal following and "For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night" is often considered as one of their finest works.
