"Heritage" is the fifteenth studio album by renowned American band Earth, Wind & Fire. Released in February 1990 under the Columbia Records label, the album showcased the band's traditional mix of R&B, soul, funk, jazz, disco, pop, dance, Latin, and Afro pop. The album was produced by Maurice White, who is one of the founding members of the band.
The album features guest appearances from multiple artists, including the Boys, MC Hammer, and the late pop icon, Michael Jackson. However, despite these collaborations, the album didn't perform as well on the charts compared to the group's earlier works. It peaked at No. 19 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and No. 70 on the Pop Albums chart.
The album also released several singles, including the title track, "Heritage", "Wanna Be the Man", and "For the Love of You". The title track, which featured the Boys, was well-received and reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot R&B Singles chart. Meanwhile, "For the Love of You" did moderately well, peaking at No. 19 on the same chart.
Despite mixed commercial success, "Heritage" maintained the band's identity one that always sought to innovate and expand the boundaries of contemporary music, while also staying true to their roots. It reflected their steadfast artistic approach mixed with a commentary on relevant social issues and continued to influence a generation of musicians.
