"No Thyself" is the fifth studio album by British post-punk band Magazine. It was released on October 24, 2011, marking their first album of new material since "Magic, Murder and the Weather" in 1981. The album was co-written by frontman Howard Devoto and guitarist Noko, featuring Dave Formula on keyboards, Jon White on bass, and veteran drummer John Doyle.
After the band's original split, they reformed for a number of concerts in 2009. The positive response to the concerts spurred the band to return to the studio and work on fresh material, leading to the creation of "No Thyself."
The album was met with significant critical acclaim upon release, with many praising the band for maintaining their signature sound while still bringing something new to the table. It is notable for continuing the band's eclectic mix of punk and pop aesthetics, punctuated by Devoto's profound and often cryptic lyrics. Some highlight tracks from the release include "Hello Mister Curtis (With Apologies)," "Do The Meaning," and "Other Thematic Material."
Despite being a late addition to their discography, "No Thyself" holds the core essence of Magazine, proving that their enigmatic style and strong musicality retain enduring appeal.
