"Heaven & Hell", released in 1997, is the 13th studio album by Joe Jackson. This album is a musical interpretation and song cycle representing the seven deadly sins.
The album was credited to Joe Jackson & Friends, with contributions from various artists: Dawn Upshaw performed "Angel (Lust)," Joy Askew sang "Tuzla (Avarice)," Suzanne Vega also featured on "Angel (Lust)," Brad Roberts of Crash Test Dummies took part in "Passacaglia/A Bud and a Slice (Sloth)," Jane Siberry contributed to "The Bridge (Envy)," and violinist Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg played on "Prelude" and "Fugue 2/Song of Daedalus (Pride)."
The album was later performed on tour with Jackson playing piano, accordion, and melodica, Valerie Vigoda on violin and vocals, and Elise Morris on keyboards, glockenspiel, and vocals. The drums on the album were mostly programmed, except for "Right (Anger)," which featured drummers Dan Hickey and Kenny Aronoff drumming on opposite speakers for most of the track, and Jared Crawford from the musical Stomp playing plastic buckets during the bridge in Times Square.
