Kansas

"Power" is the tenth studio album by the American rock band Kansas, released in 1986. This album marked a significant point for the band as it was their first studio release under MCA Records, following a period of hiatus and lineup changes. After a break in their career, Kansas regrouped with a new lineup for "Power." The album featured vocalist Steve Walsh, guitarist Rich Williams, bassist Billy Greer, drummer Phil Ehart, and keyboardist Steve Morse (who later became well-known as the guitarist of Deep Purple). This lineup brought a refreshed energy to the band, combining their trademark progressive rock sound with contemporary rock elements of the mid-1980s. "Power" includes tracks such as "Silhouettes in Disguise," "All I Wanted," and "Three Pretenders," which showcase Kansas' ability to blend melodic hooks with intricate musical arrangements. The album received a mixed reception critically but managed to spawn a few singles that gained airplay on rock radio stations at the time. While "Power" did not achieve the commercial success of some of Kansas' earlier albums, it remains a significant part of their catalog, reflecting their attempt to adapt to the changing rock music landscape of the 1980s. The album also serves as a testament to the band's resilience and their commitment to evolving their sound while staying true to their progressive rock roots.
