Released in November 1971 by Windfall Records, the album is a mix of new studio material and live recordings. The title track of the album, "Flowers of Evil," addresses the topic of drug abuse during the Vietnam War.
The first side of the album features fresh studio material, while the second side is comprised of live performances recorded on 27 June 1971 at the Fillmore East in New York City. This live portion of the album captures the raw energy of the band during a pivotal moment in their career.
Flowers of Evil was the band's only album to chart in Norway, where it reached #17, marking its highest chart position internationally.
