"Crackers" is a studio/compilation album by the British rock band Slade, released on 18 November 1985. It reached No. 34 on the UK charts and was certified Gold by the BPI that same month. The album features a mix of re-recorded hits, covers, and new material, including songs like "Do You Believe in Miracles" and covers of classics such as "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" and "Hi Ho Silver Lining". It was produced by the band's bassist Jim Lea, except for four tracks produced by John Punter.
The album was conceived as a "party" album, with a festive theme, and has been reissued under various titles over the years, such as Slade's Crazee Christmas! and The Party Album. The band was approached by their label Telstar to create a Christmas-themed project, and despite initial reservations about the idea, they enjoyed recording the album, especially the cover versions, which they treated like a live performance.
One notable story from the album's production is how guitarist Dave Hill invited a busker named Victor Herman, who played bagpipes in London, to contribute to the track "Auld Lang Syne." Herman was so appreciative of the experience that he returned the payment given to him by the band, and Slade later presented him with a Gold Disc at their Christmas party.
Although the album was a commercial success in the UK, the decision to include the single "Do You Believe in Miracles" on both the album and as a standalone release led to its underperformance on the charts. The album's festive nature has led to its ongoing popularity during the holiday season, with several re-releases over the years.
