"Slayed?" is the third studio album by the British rock group Slade, released in November 1972. It reached No. 1 in the UK, remaining on the chart for 34 weeks and certified Silver in early 1973. The album was also the band's most successful of the 1970s in the US, peaking at No. 69 and staying on the charts for 26 weeks. In Australia, it also hit No. 1 and went Gold, pushing the band's live album Slade Alive! to No. 2. Slayed? was produced by Chas Chandler.
After their breakthrough hit "Get Down and Get With It" in 1971, Slade continued their success with singles like "Coz I Luv You," "Look Wot You Dun," and "Take Me Bak 'Ome." The 1972 live album Slade Alive! marked their first significant success on the albums chart, reaching No. 2. With their second UK number one from "Take Me Bak 'Ome," the band quickly finished recording Slayed?. The lead single "Mama Weer All Crazee Now" was released in August 1972, topping the UK charts. Slayed? followed in November, also reaching No. 1, with a second single, "Gudbuy T'Jane," released that month, reaching No. 2 in the UK.
In October, "The Whole World's Goin' Crazee" was released as a free 7" Flexi disc with Music Scene magazine. In August 1973, "Let The Good Times Roll" was released as a single in America, reaching No. 114, while "Move Over" was released in Japan in November.
"How D'You Ride" was initially considered as a potential single, with Chandler eager to see it released. Drummer Don Powell noted that in "I Won't Let It 'appen Agen," his shout of "Yeah!" at the start was spontaneous, reflecting the excitement of the moment. The idea for "Gudbuy T'Jane" came to lead singer Noddy Holder while the band was in San Diego, and he completed it on the flight home. The lyrics were inspired by a woman named Jane who demonstrated a sex machine on a TV show featuring the band. The inspiration for "Mama Weer All Crazee Now" stemmed from a bouncer's story about another act performing drunk at their show in Lincolnshire.
