"PBX Funicular Intaglio Zone" is John Frusciante's ninth studio album, released in September 2012. It came out in various formats, including CD, vinyl, digital, and cassette. The album, which Frusciante self-produced, followed his EP "Letur-Lefr" and a free download track called "Walls and Doors."
John Frusciante described his music as "progressive synthpop," reflecting his approach of blending various styles using electronic instruments. He explained that "Letur-Lefr" and "PBX Funicular Intaglio Zone" represent different phases of his work: "Letur-Lefr" consists of tracks from 2010, serving as a compilation, while "PBX" was created in 2011 with songs recorded consecutively as a cohesive album. The two records are distinct in their sound. In August 2012, Frusciante released "Walls and Doors" for free, marking a shift in his style by integrating 60s and 70s production techniques with modern electronic sounds, aiming to merge pop with more abstract musical elements.
