Camel

Camel is the debut album by English progressive rock band Camel. This renowned group released the album in February 1973. The line-up consisted of Andrew Latimer (guitar, vocals), Peter Bardens (keyboards, vocals), Doug Ferguson (bass), and Andy Ward (drums). Although the album was not initially a commercial success, it is considered a classic in progressive rock circles. The album's music is characterized by its melodically rich progressive rock, with elements of jazz and psychedelic rock influences. Notably, the album's songs are all instrumental, save for brief sections of vocals on a few tracks. The band's often complex compositions are built on expansive instrumental sections. The album is conceptually centered around a journey, reflected across the tracks. The three-part suite "Never Let Go" is one of the popular tracks from the album, showcasing all members' instrumental and compositional skills, and it would remain a part of the band's live set for many years. While it did not chart upon its release, "Camel" became more recognized and appreciated with time, and is now considered one of the defining progressive rock albums of the early seventies. The band went on to achieve greater acclaim and popularity with its subsequent releases. Camel's unique style set a high standard in the industry for future bands within the genre.
