Everything But The Girl

"Walking Wounded" is an album by the British band Everything But The Girl (EBTG), consisting of duo Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt. The album was released in 1996, marking a change in the direction of their music from pop-oriented jazz and folk to electronica. The album's title track "Walking Wounded" was a significant hit and one of its most renowned, seen as the epitome of the band's new electronic approach, combining lush electronic soundscapes with Thorn's evocative, bittersweet vocals. Another well-liked track on the album is "Missing", the Todd Terry Club Mix of which had become a massive hit worldwide a year prior to the album's release, and ultimately proved instrumental in shaping the sound and feel of the album. While it signaled a new direction for EBTG, "Walking Wounded" was also a product of its time, its sound heavily influenced by the Drum and Bass and trip hop movements of the mid-late 90s. "Walking Wounded" was critically acclaimed and is considered one of EBTG's finest efforts, with its marriage of Thorn's soulful, emotive vocals and perceptive, heartfelt lyrics with Watt's intricate, cutting-edge electronic production proving a unique and enduring combination. The album was a commercial success as well, reaching the top 10 in the UK and the top 40 in the US.
