Nik Kershaw

"The Works" is the fourth studio album by English singer-songwriter Nik Kershaw, released in 1989 under MCA Records. The album's title reflects Kershaw's view of it as a collection of his musical output up to that point. Unfortunately, despite the lead single "One Step Ahead" reaching modest success at No. 55 on the UK charts, the album itself did not perform well commercially. Its second single, "Elisabeth's Eyes," failed to chart altogether. The album's production process was marked by Kershaw's dissatisfaction with original producer Peter Wolf's direction. Consequently, Kershaw and Julian Mendelsohn took over production duties for both singles, with Kershaw also reworking the entire album's production alongside Mendelsohn, earning them additional production credits. Following its initial release, "The Works" was unavailable in any format for several years. However, in November 2006, it became accessible through online MP3 download platforms like Amazon and iTunes. Despite its commercial setbacks, the album serves as a noteworthy chapter in Kershaw's career, showcasing his artistic evolution and determination to maintain creative control over his music.
