The Charlatans

"Tellin' Stories" is the fifth album by British rock band The Charlatans, released on April 21, 1997. The album features a more vintage rock sound compared to the band's previous work, with the use of organs and electric guitars. The album produced three top 10 singles 'North Country Boy', 'One to Another' and 'How High'. 'Tellin' Stories' was their most commercially successful album, entering the UK Albums Chart at No.1, making it their second consecutive album to top the chart. The recording and production process was marred by tragedy when during the sessions, keyboard player Rob Collins died in a car accident. The band decided to complete the album as a four-piece, utilising Collins' existing contributions and bringing in Martin Duffy of Primal Scream to finish recording the keyboards. Despite the tragic circumstances surrounding it, 'Tellin' Stories' remains a seminal album in their discography, and it is often regarded as one of the finest British rock albums of the 90s. In 2012, the band celebrated the 15th anniversary of its release with a UK tour where they played the album in its entirety.
