"Someday My Prince Will Come" is a studio album by jazz musician Miles Davis, released by Columbia Records in 1961. The album, Davis’s seventh studio album, was his eleventh album recorded for Columbia and the first album that he fully embraced the Flugelhorn. The album's title comes from the popular song from Walt Disney's 1937 film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which is one of the many pop songs featured in the album.
The album features musical contributions from John Coltrane on tenor saxophone on two tracks, and Hank Mobley otherwise. Other key contributors included pianist Wynton Kelly, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Jimmy Cobb. Notably, Coltrane was persuaded to return to perform on this album even though he had left Davis's group in 1960.
"Someday My Prince Will Come" contains both moderate tempo tunes and ballads, maintaining a consistent mood throughout. The music has an understated elegance and subtlety, featuring simple, yet effective arrangements. It has been widely appreciated for its relaxed, lyrical, yet still boundary-pushing style.
Often classified as Hard Bop, Modal Jazz, and Post-Bop, the album was received favorably by critics and has had enduring appeal. It's recognized as one of Davis’s key works from his early 1960s period.
