Styx

"Edge of the Century" is the twelfth studio album by Styx, released in 1990 on A&M Records. This album marks the introduction of Glen Burtnik as a member, and it is also the last album featuring drummer John Panozzo before his death in 1996. Additionally, it is Styx's final release with A&M Records. The album produced three singles, with "Show Me the Way," written by Dennis DeYoung, achieving significant success, peaking at #3 on both the Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary charts. Some radio versions incorporated snippets of congressional debate and dedications to troops in the Gulf War. The other singles, "Love Is the Ritual" (peaking at #80) and "Love at First Sight" (peaking at #25), written by Burtnik alongside DeYoung and Young, did not match the success of "Show Me the Way." Edge of the Century sold over 500,000 copies, earning a gold certification from the RIAA. The album represents a notable phase in Styx's evolution, blending rock with contemporary influences.
