Erasure

"Erasure" is the seventh studio album by English synth-pop duo Erasure, released on October 23, 1995, by Mute Records. Produced by Thomas Fehlmann and Gareth Jones, the album is noted for its experimental and introspective approach, featuring 11 mostly mid-tempo tracks that marked a departure from their earlier, more upbeat pop sound. Many tracks exceed five minutes in length and include extended synth interludes, with contributions from the London Community Gospel Choir and performance artist Diamanda Galás. While the album was recognized for its creativity, it signaled the start of a decline in Erasure's mainstream popularity. Following four consecutive number-one albums in the UK, this release failed to reach the top ten, and its two singles also missed the UK top ten. In the US, after a top 20 debut with their previous album, Erasure peaked at number 82 on the Billboard 200 and did not produce any Hot 100 singles. Similarly, in Germany, the album peaked at number 87, lower than previous releases. In a 2006 interview, when asked about their favorite album from their catalog, Andy Bell mentioned that it was a close call between Chorus and this self-titled album from 1995.
