The Temptations

"Diana Ross & the Supremes Join the Temptations" is a collaborative studio album by American groups Diana Ross & the Supremes and The Temptations. Produced by Motown's main production team, Holland–Dozier–Holland, the album was released in 1968 by Motown Records. It became a notable cross-promotionally prepared experience and resulted in subsequent collaborative albums. The album featured five songs from each group's repertoire, providing a side for each group's hits. The Supremes' songs included hits like "Stop! In the Name of Love" and "You Can't Hurry Love", while the Temptations offered classics such as "My Girl" and "Ain't Too Proud to Beg". A highlight of the album was the soulful face-off between the groups in the extended version of "I'll Try Something New". "Diana Ross & The Supremes Join The Temptations" reached number two in the US and number one in the UK, and it spawned two Top 20-charting singles: "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" and "I'll Try Something New". The combination of two of Motown's biggest acts created a notable, successful album, with the mix of male and female vocals creating a unique sound filled with rhythm, soul and pop sensibility. The album's success further solidified Motown Records' dominance in the popular music market during the late '60s.
