Miley Cyrus

"Can't Be Tamed" is the third studio album by American singer Miley Cyrus, released on June 18, 2010, by Hollywood Records. It marked her final album with the label before signing with RCA Records in early 2013. Cyrus wrote and began recording the album in late 2009 while on her Wonder World Tour, completing it in early 2010. She described "Can't Be Tamed" as a departure from her previous work, aiming for a dance-pop sound that she felt better represented her evolving musical tastes and desire for artistic growth. Produced primarily by Rock Mafia and John Shanks, the album's lyrical themes focus on breaking free from constraints and expectations, particularly in romantic relationships. Cyrus co-wrote eleven out of twelve songs on the album, with the remaining track being a cover of Poison's "Every Rose Has Its Thorn." Upon its release, "Can't Be Tamed" received mixed reviews from music critics. While some praised Cyrus' vocal performance and the album's catchy pop hooks, others criticized its lack of musical focus and perceived over-production. Despite debuting at number three on the US Billboard 200 and charting moderately well internationally, the album did not match the commercial success of Cyrus' earlier work. Two singles were released from the album: the title track "Can't Be Tamed" and "Who Owns My Heart." "Can't Be Tamed" peaked at number eight on the US Billboard Hot 100 and achieved moderate success worldwide, while "Who Owns My Heart" was released as the second single in Germany. Promotion for "Can't Be Tamed" contributed to Cyrus' evolving public image, characterized by an increasingly provocative persona that she would further explore with her subsequent album, "Bangerz" (2013). The album was supported by television appearances and Cyrus' headlining Gypsy Heart Tour in 2011.
