Bachman–Turner Overdrive

"Freeways" is the sixth studio album by Canadian rock band Bachman–Turner Overdrive, often abbreviated as BTO. It was released in February 1977 on Mercury Records. The album was the last to feature the classic BTO line-up, with band co-founder Robbie Bachman leaving the band after its release. It marked a significant change in the band's sound, with the hard rock leanings of the previous records being replaced by a softer, more pop-oriented sound, due to Randy Bachman's ambition to update the band's image and take a progressive direction. In terms of its commercial performance, the album was less successful than the band's earlier works, reaching only number 70 on the US Billboard 200. Lyrically, the 8-song album mostly revolved around themes of love and everyday observations. The lyrics were penned by members C.F. Turner and Randy Bachman. Noteworthy songs from the album include "Life Still Goes On (I'm Lonely)" and "Shotgun Rider". Despite its lukewarm reception upon release, "Freeways" has over time become a valuable collector's item.
