"At the Speed of Life" is the debut studio album by American rapper Xzibit, released on October 15, 1996, through Loud/RCA Records. The album was recorded at Tha Concentration Camp and The Compound in Los Angeles, as well as Ameraycan Studios in North Hollywood. It features production from notable names like Craig Sherrad, E-Swift, Thayod Ausar, Diamond D, DJ Muggs, DJ Pen One, and Saafir, alongside guest appearances from artists such as Hurricane G, J-Ro, King T, Ras Kass, Saafir, Tash, and Ron Hightower. In terms of chart performance, the album reached number 74 on the Billboard 200 and number 22 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in the United States. Internationally, it achieved notable positions in several countries, including peaking at number 19 in the Netherlands and number 35 in Switzerland. The lead single, "Paparazzi," became a standout track, peaking at No. 83 on the Billboard Hot 100 and achieving more significant success in Europe, reaching the Top 20 in multiple countries. It was certified Gold by the Bundesverband Musikindustrie and featured in the soundtrack of the video game Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3. The instrumental version of "Paparazzi" also appeared in the series The Sopranos. A promotional single, "Eyes May Shine," was released on the same day as the album, featuring a remix with Mobb Deep. The second single, "The Foundation," had a more modest performance, reaching No. 1 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 and No. 16 on the Hot Rap Songs chart. At the Speed of Life showcases Xzibit's lyrical prowess and sets the stage for his subsequent career in hip-hop.
