The Pastels

"Sittin' Pretty" is a studio album released by the Scottish indie rock band, The Pastels. The band, known for their significant influence in the indie pop genre, unveiled this album in 1989. It was their second full-length album and was released under the Chapter 22 Records label. The Pastels, hailing from Glasgow, Scotland, had prior to "Sittin' Pretty", established a reputation for their unique sound that amalgamates pop melodies with punk and rock undertones. The band members contributing to this album included Stephen McRobbie, Aggi Wright, Martin Hayward, and Bernice Simpson. "Sittin' Pretty" demonstrated a shift in The Pastels' music style, setting a new path for the band's sound moving forward. The songs were poppier and more polished compared to their earlier, more lo-fi work. This album was a progression from their 1987's debut "Up for A Bit with The Pastels". Key tracks from the album include "Nothing to Be Done" and "Holy Moly". There was a reissue of "Sittin' Pretty" in 1999, released under the label Domino that included added bonus tracks. The most commercially successful of these bonus tracks was "Speeding Motorcycle" - a Daniel Johnston cover that the band recorded with the vocalist of Yo La Tengo, Georgia Hubley. This album is considered an important part of The Pastels' catalogue and an essential release of the late 80's Scottish indie scene.
