"Man of the Woods" is the fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter Justin Timberlake. The album was released on February 2, 2018, by RCA Records. Production of the album took place throughout 2016 to 2017 at studios in California and Tennessee.
Described as a pop-rock album with influences of R&B and folk, "Man of the Woods" marks a departure from the R&B sound Timberlake is known for. The album's title refers to Timberlake's son Silas, whose name means 'man of the forest', and the album is considered to represent Timberlake's roots in Tennessee.
The album was promoted by four singles, "Filthy," "Supplies," "Say Something," and "Man of the Woods". "Man of the Woods" received mixed reviews from critics, some calling it an ambitious evolution and others criticizing its lack of focus and stylistic coherence. Commercially, the album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, becoming Timberlake's fourth consecutive US number-one album.
While the music of "Man of the Woods" was lead by Timberlake, the album also features contribution from producers and songwriters such as The Neptunes, Timbaland, and Max Martin, among others. Guests artists on the album include Alicia Keys and country singer Chris Stapleton. On top of a divergence from his usual sound, the album also saw Timberlake take on a more personal and introspective songwriting approach, with many songs alluding to his wife and son.
